Personal Projects

Containment started out as a small little experiment to get the franchise Halo into VR, after a few months of implementation I decided to upload my work to YouTube, to which a few people loved it. This gave me enough motivation to pursue this further, so over the next few years of working my part/full-time job I produced Containment. However, there was an inherent issue, over the years of creating Containment my skills and knowledge grew, which mean some parts of the game quickly felt dated and shabby. And so, began the endless chancing of tails, constantly updated and improving one area just to realise now another area needs changing. This went on for years. Eventually, I decided I needed to stop patching and focus on a complete rebuild. I already had the maps and story, I just needed the mechanics. And so, over the whole of summer 2025 I worked on a brand-new system that works with both VR and normal PC players alike. I recreated the AI systems to be as optimised as possible and smarter with several levels of aggression and fear. One thing I’m very proud of is that I tried to replicate the AI bungie made with its original Halo. For instance, the AI works as a team, there can be anywhere from 1-5 team leaders that will boss around the lower level enemies. However, once these team leaders die, the lower enemies go into a frenzy, some through there arms up and run away, other grab grenades and charge the player, but once a team leader returns the spirit of the team recovers and they begin following orders. This in VR can really make the enemy seem alive and thoughtful, which was decently some critics from the Betas. After revamping the AI, all 21 weapons, the player and doing it all again for VR, Containment was finally ready for release. And on 10 October 2025, ironically almost 10 years on the dot after I made the original Halo game in 2015, Containment was launched. And to a fantastic reception. The comments and feed back alone from that single video made all the effort and work worth it.

Offical launch Trailer

This was the first official trailer on the completed and upgraded version of Containment, with all 5 chapters, new VR controller and a brand-new First-Person system integrated together into one project for all people to have an enjoyable experience.

Chapter Two Trailer

Chapter Two was unique in the sense of it was the first time I made a cinematic trailer, it contained 2nd part of the game, the more horror driven and scary part. So, a dramatic cinematic trailer felt right.

First Offical Beta Trailer

The first Beta trailer was when containment was just starting to get on its feet and take shape as a game. Before then it was a lot of testing and experiments but at this stage it had finally started to take form. However the background mechanics were remade several times after this.

History:

Containment's humble beginings

For as long as I can remember I have loved to bring my favourite video games into a game engine I understand. Halo has always been one of my favourite franchises, I will always remember being a kid and playing through Halo 3 not realises there are save points, meaning every time I had to come off, I started from the beginning again. Good times. However, when I came of age and discovered my love for making video games, I instantly started making Halo, Star Wars and other franchises fan games. Usually they were very janky and poorly put together but for 12 years old not too shabby. However, I had no idea that those fun experiments would eventually lead to down a path of making games for a living.

It was during a meal with my parents in 2020 that I suddenly remember about my old Halo game and thought it would be interesting it revisit it and try and remake it with modern graphics and skills. After only a few weeks it had formed and I had a complete remaster of my previous project.

A few months after that I had the idea of merging the two latest projects id been working on. A Halo VR prototype and the remaster map. Once I merged them I instantly saw the potential and began working on a story…

March 2021

Built of nothing but curiosity and boredom, Containment started as nothing but an experiment. I simply just created a rough weapon system with the aid of HurricanVR, and began tweaking the weapons accordingly, making sure to get the correct scale and weight of the objects. Once that was in I decided to put together some enemies, however my programming skills decently were anywhere near the required level so they were quite poor. Never the less after months and months of testing I put together the first level and uploaded that as the Beta trailer.

With the beta trailer released, came the time I travelled to Australia. whilst working and traveling around Australia I had some big thoughts about my future and what and where to go. It was here that my next video Halo Containment Trailer, which was a fancier version of the beta with more tweaks and adjustments, exploded and gathered tens of thousands of views in only a few weeks. This was when I received the must support for the project so far, literally thousand of people supporting me and giving me the motivation to carryon with this project. However, I knew that were my skills were right then were good enough, I needed to train myself properly. This is where I decided to go to university and pursue game development as a serious career.

YouTubers Lets Plays

One of the many amazing experiences about Containment is that it was the first time watching people play and react to my games. in my 10 years of making games this was the first time I’d ever received positive feedback or feedback of any kind! And it was overwhelming to say the least, in the best way!

Level Design

Containment has five large maps to explore! You step into the shoes of Spartan Khan, a special ops soldier specialised for quick exfil missions. Your task, infiltrate the space station UNSC ELEMENT and remove any and all evidence of their illegal experimentation with the infection known as ‘The Flood’, nothing out of the ordinary for Khan. However, upon arrival he is met with a disturbing truth, a rouge ONI scientist whose mind has been warped by a strange forerunner artefact, released the Flood. Khan must destroy the truth.
